Week 48: Evacuation, Flooding, and Elder Blackford!

So this week was insane! Probably one of the craziest weeks of the mission. First of was I had the chance to go on 3 exchanges and 2 splits all with Elder Blackford. I was with him for 6 days! It was awesome! When I got Elder Phister back I kept talking to him like I was to Elder Blackford! The luchas were real. So this week we had a ton of rain and the flooding was literally insane! There is a Levy right next to our apartment and it was 5 feet away from breaching and going over the top. Everyone was saying that it was going to break! So we had to evacuate our apartment complex and we went and slept at a members house! It was insane! We had a packed schedule on Saturday and we missed so many lessons because it took 3 hours to drive to each lesson because of the bumper to bumper traffic! But the water has been going down and we are back in our apartment now!

So we had a few miracles this week! We found a few new investigators! We had a lesson with a new family that we are really excited for! We shared the Restoration with them and it was really spiritual! We also found another investigator. She has been through a lot of trials and we talked about the atonement of Jesus Christ and she got emotional, and it was a very spiritual moment! When we finished she said I want you guys to come back again! It was super solid!

So for my spiritual thought for the day is when life gets hard, trust God and be patient. As we are patient through our trials and endure well, we will be able to become better and stronger children of God. Elder Phister/ Blackford and I had to be very patient as we had to deal with all the flooding! We trusted in the Lord and worked hard and had a great week! Great things come when we trust in the Lord! Keep working hard everyone! Keep serving the Lord and always trusting in him! I love you all! Make it a great week!

Week 46: Things Are Picking Up Speed!

Hello family and friends!!!! I don't know about you but this week just stood up and walked away. I don't know where it went. It was fast!!!! We saw a ton of miracles this week and there are a few that I am so excited to tell y'all about. But first I just want to tell all of you how lucky, and grateful I am to be serving a mission. I love the Hispanic culture and I feel like I am so blessed to be able to help so many people feel more happiness in their lives. These people work so much to be able to provide for their families, and most of them don't even speak English. Every day I imagine what some of the challenges that these people face. They are amazing.

On Wednesday we had the opportunity to go over to the Lux family. We are really good friends and they just love the gospel, and us. They were so nice, they made us a Guatemalan breakfast, with homemade tortillas con maseca. The food was happy! It was delicious! We then taught them about baptism with a member who was baptized a few years ago. It was a really spiritual experience and we committed two of the four people to be baptized on June 25th. So Carlos and Fransisco Lux are the ones getting baptized then, and we are still working with Carol and Janet Lux. But they are all reading in the Book of Mormon and we know that all four of them will eventually get baptized. We are pumped!

On Friday I had the opportunity to go on an exchange with Elder Pogreszewski up in Conroe and it was really great. We went contacting for a couple hours and it was a ton of fun, because Elder Pogreszewski is great at contacting and it was fun seeing how we contact differently. We talked to some great people who we are solid potentials. We taught 4 people about half of the restoration. Tuvimos muchos milagros!! We also ate food with a family from Honduras. Oh it was so good. It was literally an explosion in my mouth!!!! It was chicken with lettuce and fried bananas with this fancy sauce. It was absolutely amazing!

Eating the AMAZING food on the exchange.

Elder Pogreszewski and I!

On Saturday and Sunday we had a ton of blessings as well. The first came from a guy that we found while contacting. He told us that he moved here from Mexico but that he is going back very soon. He told us that he doesn't know too much about the bible but he wants to learn more. We taught him the Restoration, and he loved it. It was a picture perfect lesson. He asked all the questions we wanted him to ask and the spirit was so strong. It was incredible. Also on Saturday night we were contacting and it was getting pretty late so we decided to start heading home. When this lady yelled down to us from her 2nd story apartment balcony, "do you need an umbrella" (because it was raining pretty hard) we said no, and we started walking away. But something said, stop, go talk to her. So we went up to her door and we started talking. She had talked to the missionaries before but it hadn't been for a long time. We started talking about trials and I had the thought to share the poem footprints in the sand. She told us, " no way, that was my dads favorite poem, he had it hung up on the wall when I grew up". The spirit got really strong right then! I felt the love of God work through me, in a way I hadn't seen before. We finished talking to her, and she went inside. But while she left I could see the happiness in her eyes, and the spirit that she felt as it bore testimony to her that her savior is there. I know that I am here for this reason. To bring people unto Jesus Christ. I want all of you to always remember that the spirit is powerful. The Holy Ghost will lead and guide you to others who need you, and will also bring those you need to you. Remember your Heavenly Father loves you. Everything we face is for a reason! I can bear testimony to this!

I love you all. Have a great week. Work hard and remember all the blessings you have given!

Week 45: Happy Mother's Day!!

Some kids who were playing with us while contacting. They were so cute!
They kept calling us the church people! Haha, that's the life!

Hello family and friends this week with amazing, we saw so many miracles and blessings from finding.  All we have been doing is finding finding finding, it seems like the topic of my emails! I'm also so happy that we had Mother's Day! To all you mothers thank you for all that you do! I am so blessed to have an amazing mother!!! She has made me the man I am today I'm grateful that I have the chance to go out and spread that same love that my mother gave me to so many of God's children.

Like I said finding has been so important. On Tuesday we had the opportunity to teach some new investigators that we found through English class named Erwin and Belen and they are amazing are so prepared. We taught them with a member and we taught them the restoration. It was so amazing to see them light up and want to learn more. We even got a chance to get Bella  who is 16 to mutual and even had a member pick her up! It was so amazing she loved it! She got to make a Mother's Day gift for her mom! All around they have so much potential! It was awesome!

So last but not least Mother's Day it was amazing we had a chance to talk with our families at a members house and it was so much fun I love seeing my family again then afterwards we had the chance to go to one of our investigators house and celebrate his birthday it was a lot of fun! Well that's it. Sorry I got to go. See ya next week. Love ya!

Week 44: Is It Almost Christmas?

Hello Family and friends it is so good to talk to you again!!! This week was really great! Because we are losing missionaries, the Hermanas in our ward got taken out, so our area is now huge!! It’s been a lot of fun going out and exploring the new area! There are so many Hispanics!! Its a happy day! So since we are exploring, we are finding like nobody's bees wax! We have found a lot of stubborn Hispanics!!! We literally knocked for 5 hours and didn't find anyone super solid yesterday! The problem with Hispanics is, that here in the States, every person works soooooo much! I don't know how they can live life! Basically what I'm saying is life is fun!

So some of the highlights this week were that we got the chance to see Carlos, Janet, Fransisco, and Carol. They are doing so good! We followed up on their reading and they told us that they are in 2 Nephi chapter 1. They said that they are all studying together! They are so amazing! They have the biggest desires to follow God. I love them so much. The only thing they struggle with is work! They work sooo much, and all of them are only 20 years old! Its so sad! We are working with them though. Carlos is thinking about quitting his job so he can go to church, which is what we are praying for! They are all so amazing!!!!

We have been doing a lot of contacting, but not only out in neighborhoods, but we are also going through so many people in our area book! While we are driving, one person is usually on the phone contacting old investigators. On one of the calls that I gave, I was talking to a man named Jose, we asked if he was interested in hearing a message about Jesus Christ and also the family, and he said, ohh si si hermano, cual dia? I was so pumped! We are seeing them today so we are pumped to teach them!

As a Spanish missionary, it is definitely hard finding Hispanic people, so the only way we can know if it's a Hispanic home without knocking on their door and checking, is by looking for the clues which are:
  1. Christmas lights/decorations
  2. Frog statues
  3. Aloe vera plants
  4. If they have a Chevy Silverado
  5. Virgin Mary pics
  6. depending on the smell, but this email doesn't allow me to send smells sadly!
So with that being said, here is an example of one of the houses we contacted...

I love the mission!!!

But on the Spiritual side of things we have seen so many blessings from the Lord this week! Even though we weren't able to find too many new investigators, the Lord kept us staying positive and faithful! One of the things that really helped me this week is a picture that my Mom sent me that I want to share with all of yall . . .

I love this picture. Because it is so true! We can do this!!! Whatever trial we have, whatever adversity, blessing or in between moment we have, we can do this! We can overcome our challenges!! We can make it to the promised land, and when we get there, we can help others row on home with us! How grateful I am to help people make it to the safety of the Gospel. In our lives right now, the water may be smooth for a moment, but it will get choppy again! But with the Savior, you can do this!! Whatever "this" is, you have a Father in Heaven who loves you so much, and that is why he sent his son! Oh, How blessed are we to have this truth! I know these things are true!! I love this work and am grateful for it especially in the hard times! I love my family, my Heavenly Father and especially my Savior! I love all of you as well! I hope you all have a great week and a very happy Mother’s day next Sunday!!

Love Elder Heiner!!!

It's hot and humid here and the mosquitoes are getting us.
