Week 61: What's Up?... The Sealy is What's Up!

Our District at the Temple

6 weeks down in Sealy and at least 6 more to go! We got transfer calls last night and the Lord is keeping Elder Guzman and I here for another go at it! It should be really good! We are going to work extra hard this transfer to help get this place on track. We had a pretty solid week last week. We had a lot of blessings come from the work we were able to do! But the highlight of the week was when we got to go to the temple! A funny moment was when we were in the temple, Elder Guzman was baptizing me, and one of the guys who was by the font, was like, "Elder why don't you give this one a practice run first", so instead of doing the ordinance first, he practiced baptizing me, going all the way in the water and everything haha! It was the funniest thing! But it was so powerful doing all the ordinances for my ancestors! The best part was going into the Celestial room. The peace that is in there is so amazing! I'm so glad we have temples on this earth to bless our lives, but also the lives of our ancestors.

I invite y'all to do what ever it takes to make the temple a priority! It is so powerful and the Lord will bless his children as they make the temple a sacrifice! I testify that it is the house of the Lord! I also testify that the Book of Mormon is true. It is amazing what it can do for our lives, when we read each and every day! I love you all have a wonderful week!

Week 60: This Week Was Sick!

So this week literally was sick. Elder Guzman was really sick for the first few days of the week, and then I picked up what he had, and I was out for the rest of the week. Twas fun! We still tried our best to get the work done. But through out the week I had a lot of time to read in the Book of Mormon. I got to realize how amazing it really is. I was reading in the war chapters, and through out the chapters there is a cycle of righteousness and wickedness. But one of the most important things that we need to do is fortify and strengthen ourselves against the fiery whirlwinds of the adversary.

In Alma 48: 8-9 it says;

8. Yea, he had been strengthening the armies of the Nephites, and erecting small forts, or places of resort; throwing up banks of earth round about to enclose his armies and also building walls of stone to encircle them about, round about their cities and the borders of their lands; yea all round about the land.

9. And in their weakest fortifications he did place the greater number of men; and thus he did fortify and strengthen the land which was possessed by the Nephites.

We must remember that the adversary is always preparing for war, and we need to always be strengthening and fortifying our weakest fortifications. We will be ready for the enemy, as we continue to trust in God, read in The Book of Mormon, keep praying, keep repenting and always being willing to change!

Our Heavenly Father loves each and every one of us! He is always waiting to hear and answer our prayers. I love the Book of Mormon. It is crazy how applicable it is to our lives! As we read it, we will find answers to questions, or concerns. Ahh it is so amazing!

I hope yall have a wonderful week!

Week 59: The Secret Life Of A Mini Missionary

Here is us after district meeting with all of our mini missionaries on the stairs in our church!

This week was really good! We went out and worked our tails off, like they were gone after! We don't have too many people we are working with right now so we had to do some major contacting! We did most of the finding on Friday, Saturday and Sunday! These were the days we had our mini missionaries with us! Having mini missionaries is so much fun, because they get to learn everything a missionary does for 2 years, but it's funny because you still get to watch some of the funny things that they say and do! The names of our mini missionaries were Daniel and Isaac! They were super cool cats! We split up so we could do twice the amount of work! For the 3 days they went with me they got the chance to do close to 3 hours of contacting! It was cool to see there progression with contacting! I told them that they would talk to everyone in English and I'd do everyone in Spanish! On Saturday, Daniel was struggling a little, so I told him to just practice like I'm the person in the home! Here's what he said " Daniel: Hey what have you been up to today? Me: I just got home from the store with my mom. Daniel: oh, so do you go with your mom to the store often?" After he said that I died laughing haha! He sounded like me when I was in Junior High talking to girls haha! He was laughing too! We did it again, and I said just talk to me about the gospel like how you would talk to yourself! As he began contacting again, it became so much better!

One of the coolest experiences that I had this week, was yesterday Isaac and I were contacting and I had no energy but I decided to just push through and get work done! Well we were knocking and we knocked this door and a guy opened up named Tommy. He actually lived in Utah for a while and he was telling me how he went through scores of missionaries, but that he doesn't believe in certain things about our church! We got talking about prophets, and how we can know Joseph Smith is a prophet through the BOM. He started talking about how the BOM was false, but I asked him if he had read it. He said yes. Then I asked him, how are you reading it? He was confused, and I told him about the invitation that the BOM gives to those who want to know that it is true, and that is to read, ponder and pray in faith. He told me he had never done this, and that he promises that he will. At that moment I saw a change, like the spirit slapped him in the face. We gave him a card and told him to call us when he knows the BOM is true! Then later last night we received this text that said this...

I felt so honored in that moment to have been able to push through my physical weakness to provide spiritual healing for another one of Heavenly Fathers children! I know that the Book of Mormon provides the answers behind the questions! I know that it's true, and has been given to us to bring peace into our lives! I know that we have a prophet on the earth today! I know he receives direct revelation from God! I know these things are true because I have read, pondered and prayed about the BOM. I love it! It provides comfort when ever I need it most! I invite y'all to really ponder the messages that it brings! They will help you! I love y'all so much and I hope you have an amazing week.

Week 58: The Pope is Mormon!!!

I don't have a lot of time but I will tell you all of the awesome things that went down this last week! So I will skip straight to Friday!!! We received 2 mini missionaries. Their names were Elder Knight and Elder Pope. Right, like the pope haha. We had fun with that one. Neither of them spoke any Spanish and we had a ton of lessons in Spanish with them. One cool thing is, that we got the chance to see the Gomez family and teach them the Restoration. It was a really cool lesson. The dad and the daughter had heard the Restoration before in Honduras but never understood why Joseph Smith was so important. When we helped them "see", they lit up with excitement!!! It was so cool! We have really high hopes for this family! The Lord continues to bless them. We did a lot of contacting as well, and I felt really bad for elders Pope and Knight because 75% of the doors we knocked were in Spanish. But it was so funny because by the end of the night Elder Pope was talking so much Spanish haha. Spanish 2 pays off yall!!! Elder Knight and I also found a ton of potentials, like this one girl named Jazelle who has been looking for the true church, and is so willing to find it! There were a lot of tender mercies that we had this week. As we worked hard, the Lord truly blessed us! It's like with anything, if we work our hardest at something the Lord will bless us eventually. Always remember Elder Hollands words, "Keep Trying, Keep Trusting, Keep Believing, Keep Growing, Heaven is Cheering you on Today, Tomorrow, and Forever"!

I love this work. The Lord continues to bless his missionaries!!! There are so many people who's lives are changing!! It's absolutely incredible! I love you all! Have a wonderful week!!!

Week 57: Get Pumped :)

So before I forget, I will fill y'all in on what happened at the end of my email last week! And if you read lasts week email, sorry 'bout that, but if you didn't, you gotta read it to understand😆!!

Email from last week (July 25th) where Elder Heiner left us all wondering...

This week was crazy!!! First of all, my new companion drank beer, we
saw a ton of people, and we found quite a few new potential
investigators, and I'm back in the country. Overall it was solid, and
I'm so excited to tell you about it.

So I am in a tiny town named Sealy. There are like 4000 people here. I
think our president enjoys exiling me out to the country haha!!! My
new companion is named Elder Guzman, and he is originally from
Guatamala, so what I'm saying is, is he is not a gringo! Basically he
is a walking Spanish dictionary! It's a blessing! We came in together
from the Provo MTC so we've been great friends throughout the mission
and things have only gotten better, well sort of . . . Let me
explain!! So our first day we were together we went to go see one of
the families we are teaching! They have 10 kids! Talk about future
baptisms! So we knock on the door and their 12 year old son opens up
and yells, "Mom the stupid elders are here!" So we go in and the kids
are all playing Modern Warfare, the dad is drunk with his pistol on
his lap and the mom bashing on Mormons. So the plan was to teach the
word of wisdom. And we did! But it's sad because I'm out of time so I
can't tell you about my companion how he drank the beer. Next time!
But I love y'all so much! Have a great week!
Love, Elder Heiner

...to be continued...

Back to this week...

So there we were beginning to share the word of wisdom, when the Mom tells us that the only way that they will listen to the lesson is if we drink their beer! I was like "hecken no!, I would rather stand up and leave!" But my comp was like, "you promise?! If I drink one sip of beer you will listen to everything?" I couldn't believe my ears! Was Elder Guzman not thinking straight?!!! They had 3 bottles of Carona Light just sitting on the table, so they poured him a glass! I was like "What the heck is going on?!!!" I was in freak out mode and I was not going to let him drink this beer! He said again, "you promise you will listen"they said, "we will let you teach for hours if you want, you just gotta drink the beer"!!! So he raised it to his mouth and took a big sip😱😱😱! My life ended right then and there😲! I was so disappointed! They all started laughing, and I was stunned that my companion would do such a thing! The mom then stood up, walks over to me and says, "Hi Im sister Ohara welcome to Sealy"😮! I felt so happy and sad and mad and shocked! I didn't know what I was feeling! I WAS GETTING PRANKED! HARD CORE PRANKED! I got up and just gave Brother Ohara a huge hug, I WAS SO RELIEVED! You have no idea! But I gotta give them props! I fell for it sooooo hard! Ahhh man, that moment is going in the books for one of the biggest nerve wracking moment of my mission haha!!!

So this week we also had a ton of miracles! We were really pumped about all of them! So on Tuesday we were knocking doors in the middle of the day and no one was home, so we decided to go somewhere else. So we drove around and let the spirit guide us! We found a tiny trailer park and decided to knock it! We found a bunch of nobody's home and some not interested's,  and also a member in the English branch which was really random but nice at the same time! But we decided to knock one more door! They opened up!! They were all from Honduras and moved to the United States a month ago! And get this, 2 of them were members and baptized in Honduras, but 4 of them were not baptized, but had been taught some of the lessons! We invited them out to church, and they all showed up!!!😄 It was the biggest miracle ever! We had a lesson with them after church and they had some questions about eternal families, and about the temple! They want to learn so much more! It's SO sick!!! I'm so pumped!!! We are seeing them on Tuesday and I'll let y'all know how it goes with them😆! They are so prepared!!

We are seeing so many blessings out here, not only in our own area but our district is blowing it up as well! Like a bomb of miracles is going off in the Sealy district! It's so fun to see! We have been sending out miracle texts throughout the different areas and every day we get a miracle text! So legit!!! I love it out here! It's so amazing! I'm so grateful for the chance I get to be serving the Lord! Thank you soooo much for all of you who are serving! You are blessing
so many lives!

Well that's it! Hope y'all have a great week! Make it a great one!

Love, Elder Heiner
